“Piano delle Lutte”, located between Druogno and Santa Maria Maggiore, is renowned as crossroads of witches. Santa Maria Maggiore is the tourist capital of the valley and is home to the Chimneysweepers Museum, symbol of the ancient times. Numberless chimneysweepers were children since they could better climb up chimneys, hence chimneysweepers used to work in pairs of an adult and a child. They travelled a lot in Italy and abroad because they were in large demand.. A man called Feminis migrated to Cologne in Germany and found the formula for a perfume which was then named after Napoleon words “Eau de Cologne” . The Pilgrim church of Madonna del Sangue in Re draws its name from the story of a child who threw a stone at the painting of Madonna hanging on a wall that started blooding.
