The visit starts off in the modern E.U.R. (Esposizione Universale Romana) district, which was built during the fascist dictature. Driving along the Via del Mare and through the simbolic pinewoods we reach the excavations of Rome’s ancient seaport at the mouth of the river Tiber. Here we go through the Decumanus Maximus, the old main street, through the Porta Romana up to the Baths of Neptune and the Firemen’s Barracks. We can see the well preserved theatre, the Forum, as well as a mill and the thermopolium. These excavations serve to state that in the past this was a lively flourishing commercial city. A short trip to the sea (Lido di Ostia) to enjoy a delicious Italian Gelato is the perfect way to end your tour!
