Pavia and the Charterhouse

Our visit of the ancient Ticinum, the capital of the Kingdom of Italy, starts in the church San Pietro in Ciel D´Oro, a significant building in Lombardy Romanesque. Later we visit the Castle of Visconti and the University. Not very far from Piazza della Vittoria we will be in awe of the Dome. We stroll along the Strada Nuova, the most elegant street of the town, and reach the covered bridge from the 14th century. Our tour ends at the Basilica San Michele Maggiore, the most significant Romanesque architecture in northern Italy. In the afternoon we visit the majestic charterhouse of Pavia. The impressive building, it took two years to complete the building, was built by the Milan “signori”, first the Visconti and later the Sforza. We will be in awe of the paintings in the refectory and in the museum as well as the book miniatures of the old library.In the afternoon, we visit a winery where to try the regional wines.
