The sightseeing, art heritage and traditions of Palermo date back to ancient times. Dominated by different and contrasting cultures, the town and the region as a whole were a melting pot of cultures. Sicily blended all these influences into what is a thoroughly unique character. We visit the historic centre with Quattro Canti, the Palace of the Normans, the famous Cappella Palatina, which offers finest examples of oriental-style mosaics, and the church of S. Giovanni degli Eremiti (St. John of the Hermits). Later we head to Monreale and visit the cathedral hosting precious golden mosaics and the astonishing Benedictine Cloister with 228 decorated double columns.
