Montalcino, Pienza and Montepulciano

A tour to discover three pearls of southern Tuscany: Montalcino, Pienza und Montepulciano.

Montalcino is worldwide renowned for the production of the superlative “Brunello” wine. Of Etruscan origin, it was long contested by Florence and Siena, the latter had to give up.

Pienza is an Early Renaissance gem. It draws its name from Pope Pius II, that after being elected to Pope turned its birthplace Corsignano into an art jewel. Numerous monuments are well worth of a look, for example Palazzo Piccolomini and the cathedral.

Montepulciano too, located on a tufa plateau, is very well known for its wine „Vino Nobile di Montepulciano”. Once belonging to Florence, the town is a Renaissance jewel as attested by the very well preserved palaces and churches.
