The history of Busseto is inextricably linked to the name of Giuseppe Verdi. From the 10th to the 16th century Busseto was also the capital of the Duchy of Pallavicino, to reach then the highest level of importance under the Farnese family. The fortified historic centre dated back to the 12th century, find its centre in Piazza Giuseppe Verdi: his monument stands in the centre of the square surrounded by the historic city walls, the fortress and the San Bartolomeo church. Always linked to the fame of Giuseppe Verdi is the town of Roncole Verdi, well known from the classical music’s lovers as the hometown of the great composer and where you can still visit his first house.
